Why It Matters
Here’s what it means for teams that have officially registered with FIRST and the Central and West Florida Regions:
Purpose
- It’s a preliminary competition that teams must attend to try to advance to higher levels (like a regional championship, state championship, or even world events).
- It gives teams a chance to demonstrate their robot performance, programming skills, teamwork, and their Innovation Project presentation.
What Happens at a Qualifier
- Robot Game: Teams run their LEGO robots on a themed challenge field to complete missions.
- Judging Sessions: Teams present to judges about their Innovation Project, Core Values, and Robot Design.
- Awards & Advancement: Some teams earn awards (for innovation, design, teamwork, or performance), and top teams are selected to advance to the next round of competition.
Why It Matters
- Qualifiers are often the first official competition experience for many teams.
- They’re designed to be welcoming, fun, and a learning experience while still being competitive. Events are run by volunteers and the volunteers are there to celebrate with the teams.
