On August 1, 2021, FIRST® announced that State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, (SCF) would serve as the FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Affiliate Partner for the Florida – West Florida Region. Known as the Suncoast FLL Region for veteran FLL volunteers and teams, the region spans sixteen counties from Citrus county to Monroe county including Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Glades, Highlands, Hardee, De Soto, Charlotte, Hendry, Lee, and Collier counties. SCF is geared to expand the number of teams by offering increased support for coaches and training for volunteers.
State College of Florida with the the SCF Coding Academy is committed to K-12 educational initiatives. Leadership found that taking on the FIRST® LEGO® League Affiliate Partnership for the Florida – West Coast Region a natural next step. Under the direction of Terri Clark, the FIRST LEGO League robotics program will join robust enrichment experiences in the Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development Department within the Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation.
Desh Bagley will continue as the FIRST LEGO League Partner for the region. Desh serves as the Director of the SCF IT/Coding Academy She is also the founder and CEO of TechPlayzone, a science and technology program in Brandon, Florida. Desh has been a long-time FIRST® LEGO® League coach and tournament director. She has operated pre-qualifying (scrimmage) and qualifying tournaments for the past five years while coaching for over eight years. Desh brings experience and passion to the FIRST LEGO League Partner leadership position for the new FIRST LEGO League Florida – West Coast Region.
